What do you do with your Allowance?

A number of our president’s were Boy Scouts. Gerald Ford was an Eagle Scout.

However, recently a number of personal papers of one particular president were scanned and posted on the web. Here is a note that he wrote to his father:


My recent allowance is 40 cents. This I use for aeroplanes and other playthings of
childhood but now I am a scout and I put away childish things.
Before I would spend 20 cents of my 40 cents allowance in five minutes I would have empty pockets and nothing to gain and 20 cents to lose. When I a scout I have to by canteens, haversacks...
