Starting on Friday evening, Jan. 18
thru Sunday morning, January 20, 2013, we participated in the Klondike
Derby. Once again, it was held in Little Bennett Regional Park and almost
900 Scouts and Scouters attended this event.
For those who are not aware, it is
cold weather camping. This year, it got down into the low 30s but
during the day it went up to the upper 40s.
Our menu was planned by two of our
Scouts and they did a very good job of planning, with the exception of
Mac-n-Cheese, which was banned by Scoutmaster Barone. This trip saw two
new items added: donuts and Eggs-McSub. Yes, we did not have English
muffins and so we saw an opportunity to try something new: the use of
sub-rolls. It wasn’t bad.
Scouts, working together as a
patrol, competed against others in using various skills, such as knots,
lashings, communication, etc.
In a future, we will post the
results and some photos, including one of a young Scout eating an Egg-McSub!
