Conrad's Eagle Scout Project (Part One)

In mid-September (11th and 18th to be exact), Troop 466 worked on Conrad's Eagle Scout Project.

The location was St. Michael's School parking lot in downtown Silver Spring.  The project was to create a garden, for meditation/prayer/relaxation, in a grassy area that was not used.  Over 40 local plants were obtained, via a grant from the National Wildlife Federation.

The location was the site of the original school convent, and the clay soil was mainly filled with lots of stones.  However, with a lot of hard work and effort, the project was completed.

The garden will be maintained by the members of the St. Michael's Green Committee.

Here are the photos from the first day of work courtesy of Mrs. G.

Our Latest Eagle Project

On Saturday, April 19th over 25 Scouts, Leaders, school classmates and family worked Joseph H’s Eagle Scout project.  The project, in Little Bennett Campground near the Browning Run Parking Area, was to plant 70 trees and then wrap them in deer fencing.   The holes were dug by the county but the trees and mulch had to be moved by hand or wheel barrel at least 250 to 300 feet.  In addition, about 100 trees received mulch.  So, there were two changes to the project: no deep fencing and the mulching of an additional 100 trees.  The work was completed in record time, with arrival at 9am for most of us and by 1pm, we shut everything down.

Eagle Scout Project - Some Post Project Comments

This past weekend, we carried out an Eagle Project at the Christian Family Montessori School
3628 Rhode Island Avenue Mt Rainier, MD 20712-2006.

The task was to refurbish the playground. We removed and replaced the sand in the sandbox (at least 60 c.f.), put down new wood chips on the playground (at least 3 cubic yards moved, dumped and raked out) and new boards on the play set.

To quote the project manager:

Thank you all for coming out and helping with my Eagle Project; it definitely looked much better when we finished. We had 22 workers in all show up, more than expected, which was great and made for quicker work. The school representative was very impressed with the job done, and I am sure all the students will be just as pleased with their new digs.
