We Are Part of the Record!

In 2010, the Boy Scouts of America honored 56,176 young men with the Eagle Award – an all-time high! That’s up by 3,706 from 2009 and the 5th straight year BSA has topped the 50,000 mark for honoring new Eagle Scouts. Great job Scouts!

Troop 466 is proud to have been part of that, with two of our Scouts earning the Eagle Rank.

Lionel Trains and the Boy Scouts

Well, if you collect items related to Boy Scouts, then you probably want to add these Lionel rolling-stock pieces to your collection: The Eagle Scout Car and The Pinewood Derby Car. In addition, they have also added a couple of Scouts and a flag pole with the American flag.

For the Troops in Afghanistan

A few months ago, the spouse of one of our Asst. Scoutmaster’s was deployed to a Afghanistan. Because she and a number of others are not at a US base, they don’t necessarily have all of the things they need (or at least not easy to get). So, we thought it would be a good idea to send them a couple of things. They requested reading materials, soap, toothpaste, etc.

So, we asked for some donations and sent out nine (9) boxes of supplies. Here is a breakdown of the items (just in case you are wondering):

Magazines: 60

Books: 24

Wipes: 5

Liquid Soap: 6 large

Soap – Bars: 16

Body Wash (bottles): 8

Toothbrushes: 6

Toothpaste (large): 6

Dental Floss: 6

Shampoo: 2

Deodorant: 8

Chewing Gum: 9 packages

Q-Tips: 2 packages

Foot Powder: 2

Assorted travel sizes of soap, mouthwash, shampoo, etc.

Two boxes of sealable bags.

Here is a photo of the first shipment...

Scout Sunday: A Scout is Reverent

Each year, Troop 466, along with Pack 466 and all of the various Girl Scout units, celebrate Scout Sunday at St. John the Evangelist Church. In fact, we invite all Scouts, regardless of where they meet, to join us.

This year, instead of having cake, fruit, etc., after Mass, we decided to head over and support one of the other youth groups (iGroup) at their pancake breakfast.

Here are a couple of photos for you of the day. Enjoy!

Favorite Scouting Sayings

Recently, Scouters were asked for their favorite saying via Facebook. Below we have posted a selected few.
If you have one, put it in the comment section and we may just post it.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
“Be Prepared... the meaning of the motto is that a scout must prepare himself by previous thinking out and practicing how to act on any accident or emergency so that he is never taken by surprise.” - Lord Robert Baden-Powell
From when out camping, "When life gives you mosquitoes make bug juice.
"Leave your campsite cleaner than you found it"
"Scouting is s game with a purpose"
“Be at the church by 7 or we will leave without you.”
“What are the boys preparing for?” "Why for any old thing" Lord Baden Powell
Its not the destination, its the journey.
Plan The Work; Work The Plan, For Those Who Fail To Plan, Plan To Fail".
Remember -- Advancement, Camping, etc. are "Methods", not the "Aims and Purpose" of Scouting.
One from the medical staffer at summer camp about drinking plenty of water - "A hydrated Scout is a happy Scout. A dehydrated Scout is a dead Scout and dead Scouts have no fun!"
Where's the duct tape?
I wonder what would happen if we put that in the fire...
a scout is never lost maybe temporarily misplaced but never lost
One pair of underwear can last 4 days -- inside, outside, and backwards.
What's the difference between regular pancakes and scout pancakes; The scout pancakes have leaves, twigs, and a little dirt.
Train them, trust them, let them lead.
Sometimes it takes looking through the haze of campfire smoke to see the world clearly ~ Baden Powell
A hundred years from now it will not matter what my bank account was, the sort of house I lived in, or the kind of car I drove. But the world may be different, because I was important in the life of a boy.
- Forest E. Witcraft, Scout Leader
