Pack 466 Pinewood Derby

Our main Pack feeder is Pack 466, which is sponsored St. John the Evangelist.  Each year, for many years, the Pack holds a Pinewood Derby.  ASM Mr. B decided to attend for a few minutes and here are some photos from the event.  Enjoy!

After a good night's rest, the troop was up to make breakfast, and then hike the three miles or so on the towpath,  up to the Great Falls Visitor Center.  There, we at lunch (backpacking meal) and then only with daypacks, headed along Billy Goat A and the towpath, to the vehicles.

Marsden Tract Campout - Part 2 (Feb 19 and 20, 2017)

Did I tell you that this was a FANTASTIC campout for a February.  It was in the 60's during the day and did get down to about the low 40's at night.

So, we arrived at our campsite (3) only to find that there was another group there.  So, after discussing it with them, we moved to Campsite 2, with the understanding that if someone showed, we would move to #3 and they would have to vacate.

So, upon arrival, we began to set up camp.  Of course, there is always dinner, which consisted of macaroni, meatballs and garlic bread.  The key was not only how to show how to use a backpacking stove, but also to clean with limited water.

Marsden Tract Campout - Part One (Feb. 19 and 20, 2017)

In preparation for the BTOW, shakedown hikes and campouts are a must.  This gives each Scout and Leader the opportunity to see what works and does not work.

This February, we decided to hold a weekend camping trip to the Marsden Tract on the Potomac River.

After meeting at the troop room, and gathering the needed gear, we headed out to the lower parking lot at Carderock.  Then along the Billy Goat Trail (B) to the C&O Tow Path and back onto the Billy Goat Trail (A) to the campsite.

Here are a couple of photos for your enjoyment!
